Simple, stately and seafaring describe Mac’s Chatham Fish & Lobster freshly renovated restaurant in Chatham, MA. As the latest eatery in the Mac’s Seafood family, owner Mac Hay and his wife Traci Harmon-Hay turned to Stonewood Products to bring their rustic-meets-nautical concept to life.
Floors First
High volumes of traffic and spills make vinyl flooring a common option for restaurants; however, Mac always likes to go with wood as his first choice. “Wood flooring instantly softens a space, adds authenticity and sets the tone for the entire design,” said Mac Hay.
With hues reminiscent of sand and coastline, the Oak Bluffs flooring from Sawyer Mason’s Shoreline collection was the right fit. Filled knots, eased edges and a tight grain pattern, this UV-oiled wide plank of natural French Oak structured flooring offers durability and easy maintenance.
Wall Wonder
To prevent damage to walls, wainscoting is a practical and decorative element often used in restaurant design. Straying away from the norm, Traci chose dark wide plank French Oak flooring to dress the walls.
Creating great depth of color in deep grays and blues, the Newbury paneling from the Sawyer Mason Developer Collection delivered a rich contrast against the light, breezy floors.
With extra Newbury flooring, the duo expanded this design detail to the booth seats, too.
Rustic Rarity
Red, white and blue are colors indicative to Chatham’s coastal style. It is the reason why the weathered paneling from the Lighthouse Cove Collection was the perfect addition to the restaurant’s ordering station, raw bar and entry way.
Featuring a multi-color, multi-layered paint technique in a wide plank European Oak hardwood, the paneling met the couple’s rustic concept.
Superior Service
Given the scale of the remodel, Mac and Traci were pleased that only one meeting with Stonewood Product’s Design team, was all it took to choose the right specialty woods.
“We appreciate working with a company like Stonewood Products because they offer so many options to help us easily execute our vision and compete against the humid Cape Cod climate,” said Mac Hay. “We were able to stick to a simple and clean design that let the materials speak for themselves.”
